Question: |
What is the advantage of an Electro-Mechanical Operation Versus a Hydraulic Operation?
|
|
Answer: |
Electro-Mechanical Operation versus Hydraulic Operation
1. Environment – Hydraulics fluid pollute. Fluid leaks into the water and evaporates into the air.
2. Dependability –
a. Electro-mechanical actuators have “zero creep”. They stay where you position them. They will not back down.
b. Hydraulic cylinders get “soft” and will back down” requiring frequent resetting of your trip position.
3. Precise Positioning –
a. Electro-mechanical actuators are precise. One revolution of the motor turns the drive x revolutions – every time.
b. Hydraulic actuators change based upon the amount of fluid in the system.
4. Lower Cost and Lower Incidence of Repair –
a. Electro-mechanical actuators require little maintenance, are easier and less costly to repair than hydraulic systems.
5. Longer Life –
a. Because they are mechanical, you can accurately predict the life of electro-mechanical actuators.
b. You can’t predict the life of a hydraulic cylinder.
